Some of the top ranked teams in the state play tough games this week. Here are a few:
3 McGill Toolen (4-0) @ 9 Davidson (4-0)
Keep an eye on the quarterbacks in this one. McGill's QB Cullen Wacker accounted for 250 total yards and two touchdowns against Daphne last week. His head coach Keith Powell says he's the best signal caller in the state. For Davidson, junior quarterback Jarrell Smith's all around talent has got them off to an undefeated start.
our pick: McGill. Their defense is better against the run.
8 Vestavia Hills (3-1) @ 6 Mt. Brook (4-0)
Here's a game that has to be won at the line with both teams featuring a talented backfield. Vestavia put up 300 yards rushing on Pelham last week behind running back Michael Brown. J.D. Marsh has been running all over defenses this season for Mt. Brook. The Spartan defense has also played well-posting two shutouts already.
our pick: Mt. Brook. Coach Yeager adjusts well when teams focus on Marsh.
3 Hartselle (4-0) 5A @ 1 Cordova (4-0) 3A
Cordova is hanging their season on the talented backfield duo of Tim Simon and Ryan Smith. They combined for 358 all purpose yards, two rushing TDs and two punts returned for touchdowns in a 40-7 rout of Northside. In the first half!! Hartselle is coming off a huge 24-14 win against no.6 ranked Russellville.
our pick: Cordova. I'm not picking against Cordova until I see somebody stop Simon/Ryan.
Other key games around the state:
4 (5A) Vigor (4-0) @ 5 (6A) Opelika (4-0)
15 Huntsville (3-1) @ 4 Oxford
2 Tuscaloosa Co. (4-0) @ Clay-Chalkville (3-1)
